Master Gardeners Burlington County

Smiths WoodsButterfly Garden Update - August, 2016

This month was so dry that much of our energy had been spent watering the plots. Many varieties of butterflies have visited the site - monarchs, swallowtails, skippers, buckeyes, and quite a few caterpillars both monarchs and black swallow tails. A hickory horned devil caterpillar was discovered on the button bush.

We also provided support information to the county junior rangers program on butterflies. The workshop was a cooperative effort between the county naturalist and a master Gardener.
